A safe, affordable home is the foundation of a vibrant, successful and thriving community. It is for this reason that we are proud to support Habitat for Humanity in several of the communities in which we operate.

Employees in Longview, Texas have been supporting Habitat for several years, working on three homes in their local community. Recently, twelve women from the Longview facility completed the second “Women’s Build” which brought together employees from several different departments to help caulk and paint a home under construction. Volunteers included Sandra Terry, Motor Assembly III. Sandra has been swinging a hammer since the start of the partnership, working on all three homes.

“The thing I most value is the joy knowing that I helped take part in making someone else’s dreams come true to be home owner. Rather it be hammering a nail, or painting or caulking. And watching the children hammer their address number on their house. And hear them say I have my own room now.”

The experience also attracted first time volunteers like Monta Parker, Administrative Assistant - Wheel Loader Engineering.

“I enjoyed the comradery and the feeling of helping others. I really enjoyed getting to know about Habitat and how it works. The knowledge that we are helping a family purchase a house that otherwise could not buy without this help. I will do it again.”

Bonnie Hegeman, Aftermarket Parts Coordinator and first-time volunteer, was also convinced, she’ll be back.

“I would do it again and recommend it again! You start out the day automatically in a good mood because you know you are going to do good for someone who needs it and the day just gets better as it goes on.”
