Aluminium Roller

The Joy low-noise low-vibration aluminium roller is widely used in many Australian port facilities. The aluminium roller is fully engineered and tested to handle loads in excess of 10,000 TPH and delivers important operational, health, and safety (OH&S), and environmental features.

The marine-grade aluminium tube together with the polyurethane bearing housing gives the roller a high level of corrosion resistance.

When conveying heavy bulk materials in the harsh environments of underground and surface mining, you need to have innovative reliable equipment to ensure the optimal conveyor availability and outputs are achieved. With continual increase in tonnages and speed, together with OH&S and environmental considerations, conveyor components need to be smart in design to meet customer needs. The Joy low-noise aluminium roller balances all the key components resulting in a truly innovative and optimised design to address some of the most difficult challenges encountered in these environments.

Low Noise

With most port facilities being located close to townships, noise can be an issue. the aluminum tube is manufactured to special high tolerance requirements ultimately producing a highly balanced low vibration roller with low TIR (Total Indicator Runout) and MIS (Maximum Indicator Slope). Typically, the installation of aluminum rollers on a conveyor system can decrease the noise emission by up to 12 dba.

Corrosion resistant

With the tube and closing cap being manufactured from marine grade aluminum and the housing from polyurethane, this roller offers a corrosive resistant assembly capable of tolerating the salty coastal environment along with the high sulpher content contained in some of the coal material being conveyed.

Sealing system

A key attribute of the aluminum roller is the well-defined multi-labyrinth/closing cap sealing system. This design was developed for the harsh and often unforgiving iron ore and coal environments, providing excellent protection for bearings against contamination.

Shaft

Standard shaft supply is solid, manufactured and designed for minimum deflection and accurate journal alignment.

Impact Roller

Impact idlers are utilized in the loading area and are designed to absorb shock and help protect your conveyor belt.

Machined and Balanced Roller

The Joy Machined and Balanced roller offers super smooth running where required in low noise, precision weighing or high-speed applications.

The roll is based on our industry leading S-rim steel roll, which is then machined and dynamically balanced. The dynamic balancing (instead of the common static balancing) is the key to the product’s performance. This is what enables the low vibration characteristics required for low noise, precision weighing or high-speed applications.

S-Rim

When conveying heavy bulk materials in the harsh environments of underground and surface mining, you need to have innovative reliable equipment to ensure the optimal conveyor availability and outputs are achieved. With continual increase in tonnages and speed together with operational, health and safety (OH&S) and environment considerations, conveyor components need to be smart in design to meet customer needs. The Joy S-Rim roller balances all the key components resulting in a truly innovative and optimised design to address some of the most difficult challenges encountered in these environments.

End Cap

With significant increased tonnages, the traditional welded end-cap designs are seeing large increases in load, particularly at the end-cap/tube weld joint. The tube bore tolerance is tightly controlled to ensure the minimum fit is generated between the end cap and shell. This fit prevents tensile forces caused by reverse bending of the shell being transferred to the weld. The resulting connection produces infinite fatigue life under nominal loads.

Features include:

  • Weld does not see any reverse bending stress
  • Any potential fatigue failure at the welded joint is eliminated
  • Roller construction protects the weld from in service wear

Sealing System

A key attribute of the S-Rim Roller is the well-defined multi-labyrinth/closing cap sealing system. This design was developed for the harsh and unforgiving iron ore and coal environments, providing excellent protection for bearings against contamination.

Features include:

  • Non-contact – low rim drag sealing
  • Fully tested – in-house and field
  • Fire resistance compliant with approval for underground use
  • Resistant to high pressure hose down.
