The CHS series chain haulage systems, with a 23 to 32 tonnes (25 to 35 tons) per minute rated load capacity, are recognized in the industry as the most effective equipment for moving mined material from the mine face for specific applications.

Multiple system options available

Two basic system options are available:

  • CHS-HT25
    • Capacity rating of 23 tonnes (25 tons) per minute
    • Hydraulic tram with closed loop hydraulics
  • CHS-AC35
    • Capacity rating of 32 tonnes (35 tons) per minute
    • AC electric tram

The CHS systems feature four key units:

  • Breaker car module (BCM): mechanical conveyor drives available to match specific mining applications
  • Conveyor bridge module (CBM): dual motor design with 57.15 mm (2.25 in.) pitch conveyor chains
  • Mobile bridge module (MBM): ergonomically designed operator cab for comfort and visibility
  • Rigid haulage system (RHS):
    • Solid top rails for extra strength
    • Inboard pulley bearings for better maneuverability and extended life
    • 5.5 m (18 ft.) long sections

The system configuration and number of these units depends on the individual mine application and production requirements.

In addition, the chain haulage systems use the same motors, variable frequency drives, gearcases, and chains as our continuous miners, allowing you to save replacement part stocking costs as well as leverage maintenance knowledge across your fleet.

Joy OptiDrive, an AC variable-frequency drive system, integrates software with the electronic and mechanical systems to provide the following features:

  • Increased tram speed: significantly increases the tractive effort available, improving the equipment’s ability to climb gradients and negotiate difficult roadway conditions
  • Regenerative braking: supplements the mechanical brakes, allowing them to run cooler with extended war life. Regenerative braking is highly effective at automatically maintaining constant speeds when descending gradients
  • Less maintenance: no commutator brushes to inspect and replace mean AC traction motors are typically more reliable, more durable, and require less maintenance than DC traction motors

The optional lumpbreaker front end handles material sizing and metering functions as well as flow control on the belt. The lumpbreaker also eliminates the need for a feeder breaker in the section.
