On Friday, 1 April 2016 an awards ceremony was hosted by the Joy Global South Africa Foundation Trust, for the top performers of the Karabo Centre project.

The Joy Global South Africa Foundation Trust was established in February 2014 to advance the development of black people in South Africa through education, training and business development programs as a broad-based ownership scheme. Beneficiaries of the trust include, but are not limited to charitable organisations, community trusts, enterprises needing development and persons in need of bursaries/scholarships. Beneficiaries of the trust must be at least 85% black and 30% black female.

The Karabo Centre for mathematics, science and commerce launched a project in 2012 where they provide weekend and public holiday extra classes in mathematics and physical sciences to learners from the Vosloorus community. The project has produced excellent results and by 2015 students achieved distinctions in mathematics and physical sciences. 75 of these learners enrolled at Tertiary institutions and seven of these students form part of the Joy Global bursary scheme. A total of 450 learners have been enrolled with Karabo Centre for 2016.

The Joy Global Foundation acknowledged 15 Students from the Karabo Centre project at the Joy Global premises with an awards ceremony and luncheon. These students achieved marks greater than 80% for mathematics and physical science.
