Hoist ropes flex or "bounce" repeatedly as a dipper is hoisted and lowered. This flexing occurs between the hoist drum and boom point and can contribute to shortened rope life. In addition, impacts with roller-type rope guides can contribute to shortened life. The fleeting sheave rope guide helps limit hoist rope flexing during dipper hoisting and lowering.

The rope guide mounts to the top of the boom. Dual steel sheaves channel and maintain contact with the hoist ropes as they travel between the hoist drum and boom point sheaves.

In multiple studies, this system helped eliminate the failure mode of rope breakage between the hoist drum and boom point. Of course, actual results may vary by application and operator practices.

This upgrade is available for retrofits on P&H 4100XPC AC and DC shovels.
