Like fingerprints, no two mines are identical. Huge variations in commodities, geographic locations, and levels of expenditure mean there can be no hard and fast rules for the relationship mine operators have with equipment manufacturers.

Multinationals such as Sandvik Mining, Atlas Copco, Joy Global and Caterpillar manufacture most of the large equipment found at mine sites around the world: from loaders, haul trucks, dozers and excavators to conveyor components, crushers and automation systems.
