Randy has been employed as an Electronics Technician in the Rockhampton, Australia Centre of Excellence since September 2006. As well as committing to his wife and children and his full time job, Randy volunteers as a Scout Leader; having done so for the past two and a half years. When his Leadership Training competence is complete in May 2015, Randy will specialise in abseiling and canoeing in order to further pass on these skills to a new generation. His aim is to complete Guide Level Abseiling allowing him to independently train our youth.  Randy has taken his love of the outdoors and uses it to focus on others; he takes the opportunity to help mold our future leaders.

Randy gives his time to his troop (Warrapari Scout Group) every Wednesday night during school term and spends on average two weekends per term on camping expeditions, adventurous activities, etc. His ‘spare’ time is spent planning and preparing. Thankfully, one of his own children is part of his troop!

Scouting in Australia was set up by Lord Baden-Powell and is now the largest youth program worldwide, with a global membership of over 40 million members.  During formative years, children acquire knowledge and skills and develop character. The Movement assists in giving young people more exposure to and expectation of positive behavior in society.

The World Scouting Committee has released a new Vision statement: “By 2023 Scouting will be the world’s leading educational youth movement, enabling 100 million young people to be active Citizens creating positive change in their communities based on shared values.” Scouts Queensland Chief Commissioner, Kirsty M Brown OAM, stated, “Young people account for a quarter of the world’s population. This numerous part of the human race is a powerful force for change and a significant contributor to facing both local and global challenges by taking action in their communities: providing for their families, implementing development projects, advocating human rights, participating in decision-making, providing solutions for collective problems. Young people are not just adults in-the-making but can also be active members of their communities right here and now.”

From an employment perspective, Randy feels that the EHS training undertaken through Joy Global as one of our HSRs, has assisted him in better understanding the risks involved in everything he does. He has adopted the ZERO harm effort with his group.

Congratulations to Randy for his wonderful support of the Scouting Movement.
