For the second year the Human Resources team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin volunteered their time to serve a meal to the hungry through an organization called The Gathering which serves meals at three different locations throughout the city. The HR team came together to serve dinner at a location that is just blocks from the National Avenue facility. On the menu, hot ham sandwiches, corn and peas, salad, dessert, hot coffee and milk. Guests who came for the meal appreciated the friendly service, good food and conversation.
While most volunteer experiences encourage the collaboration and involvement of people from various departments there are benefits to a department volunteer activity. The shared experience allows co-workers to learn something new about the members of their team and interact in a more casual way.
“It was nice to volunteer with co-workers and talk about things other than work or business” shared Kate Stich, Human Resources Generalist. “Volunteering reminds me to be grateful and appreciate what I have.”
We have been volunteering to serve meals with The Gathering for nearly 25 years. Employees are gearing up for the next company-wide volunteer opportunity in February and other departments have expressed interest their own experience in the future.
