On one of the hottest days of the year, a group of 15 employees, retirees, family and friends volunteered to serve a meal to Milwaukee’s hungry through an organization called The Gathering. Prep work started with buttering bread and chopping vegetables to make a fresh green salad to accompany baked chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and Wisconsin State Fair Cream Puffs for dessert. In total, over 200 guests visited the meal site. Guests who visit The Gathering’s downtown location are generally members of Milwaukee’s homeless population and The Gathering serves all who come, without question.
The Gathering is a non-profit organization that works to provide meals to Milwaukee’s hungry at three different locations throughout the city. We have been supporting the organization for over 20 years and this marked our 63rd volunteer experience. We support The Gathering as part of our commitment to Human Services in local communities. By addressing hunger we can also improve mental and physical development and lesson impediments toward economic growth.
