Recently Komatsu Mining Corp sponsored the 14th Annual sySTEMnow Conference coordinated by STEM Forward. The event attracted over 200 educators, administrators, nonprofit leaders and business partners who have a vested interest in promoting the pursuit of achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

The event included two impactful keynote speakers including Menzel Pehlivan, a Geotechnical Engineer at CH2M and engineer featured in the IMAX film, Dream Big: Engineering Our World and Donald Bossi, President of FIRST, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspiring young people to become science and technology leaders and innovators.

In addition to having two dynamic keynotes, attendees had the opportunity to sit in on a wide variety of informational panels covering everything from The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the STEM Talent Pipeline, Coding in the Curriculum, Improving Career Readiness with Career & Industry Days, Closing the STEM Gap and much more!

The conference provides an opportunity for attendees to stay in touch with best practices and emerging topics within STEM education outreach.

“Each year we walk away with new resources and ideas to improve our own STEM education outreach” commented Cathy Stagmer, Social Responsibility Manager. “The conference has proven to be a useful experience for teachers, business partners and STEM advocates throughout the state, we value the information that is shared and are proud to sponsor such a worthwhile event.”

Komatsu has been sponsoring the conference for several years, including service and leadership on various panel discussions.

“Komatsu has been an important partner and sponsor in the sySTEMnow Conference since 2010. The company was one of the first locally to understood the importance of investing in STEM education and talent – we’re tremendously appreciative for their support of our work” commented STEM Forward Executive Director, Rich Merkel.

Investing in programs that foster a greater interest and level of achievement in STEM fields is a priority for Komatsu, in Milwaukee and across the globe. Inspiring today’s youth to pursue STEM careers is a priority for Komatsu as we recognize the important role they will play in taking our industry forward.
