In 2011, we launched a partnership with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity aimed at strengthening neighborhoods in the Greater Milwaukee community. The focus has been directed specifically to the Washington Park neighborhood which is just minutes from our National Avenue facility. The partnership includes a workplace giving campaign, year-round employee volunteer efforts and a supplier golf tournament.
On August 22, over 20 of our valued suppliers hit the greens for the 6th Annual Golf Tournament to Benefit Habitat for Humanity. Representing both surface and underground partners, suppliers came from throughout the United States and Canada to join in our efforts to support Habitat’s mission. A day of golf was followed by a silent and live auction and raffle. The evening program featured the presentation of awards to the suppliers celebrating their fifth year of participation along with a presentation by Milwaukee Habitat’s 1000th homeowner, Deanna Brown.
During the awards presentation Jeff Schmaling, President-Americas North and the Executive Sponsor of our Habitat for Humanity efforts, spoke of his personal experiences in building Habitat homes, sharing the impact Habitat is making on the Washington Park neighborhood. “This transformation and change would not be possible without you, our valued suppliers. Our joint investment in Habitat helps bring vitality, safety and resources to the community and we are thankful that you have chosen to join us in making Habitat for Humanity a priority. We appreciate the support of those of you who have been with us from the start, those of you who have joined along the way, and those who are with us for the first time today. Together we are making a difference.”
Brian Sonderman, Executive Director of Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, indicated that the results of their concentrated efforts on one neighborhood are paying off. “This block by block approach is giving residents a sense of pride that has long been missing. But most importantly, we hear more families saying how their partnership with Habitat is transforming their lives and giving them renewed hope. Crime is down by 30% and property values have increased.”
The event is projected to net nearly $66,000 bringing its six-year total to over $545,000 net raised for Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity.
