Title: Senior Engineer and Team Leader - Shovels
Employee since: 2011
What motivated you as a student to become an engineer?
By the time I was in 8th grade, I knew I wanted to do engineering. I had developed a knack for math and science and decided to put the two together.
What is your favorite part of being an engineer?
Being part of an innovative environment and seeing a process/product from the conception phase to the design phase and then, finally, seeing the final product.
Describe what your current role is like...
I'm currently in the Current Product Support (CPS) department. What I do on a day-to-day basis is support our current product line for Drills and Shovels. What that entails for me is developing new electrical systems or maintaining support for products that are in the field. In addition, I identify annual savings in cost-down activities through design and drawing corrections. I also ensure on-time release of all production drawings for the CPS product line to planning/purchasing and manufacturing.
Do you have any advice for a student interested in pursuing an engineering career?
Engineering is a very dynamic profession that can be rewarding in many ways. Don't give up and always strive for excellence in anything that you do. One quote that shapes my philosophy would be the following:
"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." - Albert Schweitzer
