First name: Donna
Location: Milwaukee, WI, USA
Title: Project Manager - Mechanical Engineering Group
Employee since: 2005
Why did you originally get into engineering:
Prior to working here, I worked for 13 years for a medium-sized manufacturer as the Purchasing/Materials Manager. I was highly involved with our engineering team on cost reduction opportunities and with the manufacturing team on processes. I felt that having a more in-depth knowledge of engineering would allow me to make suggestions on redesign opportunities and material substitutions.
Tell us about one of your products moments in engineering...
I developed a configuration system to assist the Engineering group in creating machine-level bills of material. Through a series of drop-down selections, part numbers for a sold order may now be identified quickly, which has eliminated a great deal of time to release the machine to planning and manufacturing.
What do you value most about working in engineering?
The teamwork.
What advice would you give a student interested in pursuing engineering?
Dare to be different - just because something functions as it is does not mean it cannot be made better.
